Symptoms and Conditions

From Skin issues to Fatigue

A Broad Spectrum of Symptoms may be Caused by Sensitivities

An inappropriate or heightened sensitivity to certain substances can lead to a wide range of symptoms across various organ systems. Certain organ systems may be more likely to react to specific allergens or triggers. For instance, the respiratory system may react to pollen. However, substances can impact any organ system in the body, resulting in diverse symptoms that vary from person to person. Take soy as an example—some individuals who are sensitive to soy might develop hives, others could experience digestive issues, and some might face symptoms like fatigue, wheezing, or congestion. Because any system in the body can respond inappropriately to a substance, different individuals can experience very different symptoms from the same trigger depending on which system is reacting. The SAAT practitioner helps to identify and addresses the relationship between specific organ systems affected by allergens or triggers, aiming to alleviate defensive responses and resolve the symptoms.

Digestive System

Symptoms in this category can include acid reflux, heartburn, stomach pain, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. These reactions are typically related to food or other ingested substances.

Respiratory System

Common symptoms are sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose, asthma, difficulty breathing, coughing, postnasal drip, and itchy, watery eyes. Reactions may be linked to pollens, dust, foods, chemicals, animal dander (including that from cats, dogs, and birds), airborne irritants, and other contact allergens.

Skin Reactions

Symptoms include redness, itching, flaky eczema, rashes, and hives. Food sensitivities are often the primary cause of these reactions, though exposure to plants, chemicals, or contactants can also trigger skin problems.

Headaches and Migraines

Certain foods like coffee or alcohol, airborne triggers like pollen, and chemicals such as perfumes or car exhaust fumes can lead to headaches and migraines.

Fatigue and Exhaustion

Many sensitivities can lead to tiredness and feelings of exhaustion. These feelings can sometimes be more pronounced during specific times of the day, such as in the afternoon following meals.

Multi-System Reactions

Some individuals experience a combination of symptoms affecting multiple organ systems, which may include headaches, irritability, mood swings, hyperactivity, fatigue, inflammation, or a racing heart rate.

Allergic reactions or sensitivities can also contribute to conditions like asthma, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), though these conditions are not always triggered by allergies or sensitivities. IBS, which affects about 15% of the population, is often linked to hypersensitivity and can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, bloating, and stomach pain. Skin issues like eczema, dermatitis, and hives are frequently associated with allergic reactions or sensitivities
